Jason Bassett's Orange 72 240Z

In 2003 I received a request from the editors of Sports Z Magazine to come up with a cover shot for the upcoming issue of the magazine ASAP.  After reviewing the proposed layout I suggested a shoot using my customer, Jason Bassett’s beautifully maintained orange 72 240Z.

Mr. Bassett generously offered to loan me his car for the better part of the week so I could come up with a variety of interesting shots.  Although the shot for cover, featuring an article on 240Z wiring issues, turned out to be more mundane and useful for the editor’s needs than exciting to me, I came away with a lot of interesting “outtakes” from several different locations around the San Francisco Bay Area that I have come to enjoy over the years for their straight forward and clean documentation of an original orange 240Z, which for many, has come to symbolize the 240Z models more than any other stock color.  Featured here are several taken along the San Francisco bay shoreline next to the Golden Gate Fields horse racing track and nearby Richmond, CA crime infested “shoot ’em up” industrial back streets.

Side Note:  At the north end of the horse racing track near the bay waters is a large parking lot visible on the map that many Z car racers will remember well as one of 2 -3 locations that autocross racers used to gather at almost every weekend.  Golden Gate Fields eventually pulled the plug on their generous offer to host weekend autocross events their, but before they did, that location became home for hundreds of racers.
